Website Update - January 2026
The website is on Weebly.com, set up by Wessington u3a War Memorials Group: this website includes a vast amount of information re Washington men and their families from the Great War. Not only are those who were killed listed but there is also extensive coverage, from the Absent Voters List of 1918, of those men who were still serving.
Shortly the website will be updated to include information from WW2 – divided into sections covering the names on the Washington Memorial in the Village, the Harraton Memorial at Fatfield, the Usworth Church Memorial, Washington School Memorial and also those who are known to have been from Washington but who are not named on a local memorial.
The website has attracted users since it was established and has been a point of contact through which people, both local and from across the world (most recently David Yeomans from Western Australia) can contact us and either ask for, or provide, information about their relatives.Wessington War Memorials Project has its own website where details of past and future events, together with much other information, can be found.
DVDs Available
Our latest DVD is available. Made by Lonely Tower Film and Media and funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, the film is called ‘From Washington to Wipers and Warlencourt.’ The film tells the story of u3a members from Wessington, Sunderland, Washington Village and Cestria who went to France and Belgium to visit the cemeteries and memorials of their own relatives and of men from Washington.
